PLANS FOR A KEN KESEY MEMORIAL

Subject: Ken Kesey Memorial
Date: Mon, 28 Apr 2003 14:24:32 -0700
From: "Cathy Briner" cabriner@attbi.com
To: info@blacklistedjournalist.com

I am writing to you in the hope that we might gain your support for an  important project that is currently underway in Eugene, Oregon.

Various leaders in Oregon are currently raising funds for the creation of a bronze sculpture to acknowledge and commemorate the enormous literary contributions of the late author, KEN KESEY, who lived and worked most of his life in Oregon. The lifesize sculpture will depict Kesey seated on a bench reading a book to 3 youngsters, something he often liked to do. Along the sides of the bench various quotes from Sometimes a
Great Notion
and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest will be inscribed. Also, on the ends of the bench, the names of major donors will be listed. Pete Helzer, a regionally well-known sculptor and a good friend of Kesey's, has been commissioned to create this important memorial. The Kesey family is in full support of this project, and the City of Eugene has enthusiastically agreed to the installation of the sculpture in the heart of
downtown Eugene where it will become a destination point for residents and visitors alike.

We are pushing forward to make this happen in the next few months so the memorial can be unveiled at the next Eugene Celebration event in September 2003.

In order to raise funds to cover the project's estimated cost of $115,000, we have been selling a commemorative poster of Kesey (see attachment), a photograph taken of Kesey not long before his death by
Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Brian Lanker, and seeking cash donations. Posters have been selling for $25 each by mail and in selected bookstores and galleries in Oregon. Support for this project has been quite strong, but the state of the economy, especially in the Northwest, is making it difficult to raise all of the needed funds in a timely way.

As someone who greatly admired Ken, you can appreciate the importance of Kesey and his work and the enthusiasm we bring to acknowledging him appropriately. We ask for your assistance in making the Kesey Memorial a reality. Your tax-deductible contribution (payable to Kesey-Lane Arts Council, 99 West 10th Avenue, #100, Eugene, OR 97401) will make a large impact on the campaign and will of course be appropriately acknowledged. Donors of $500 or more will receive one of a special limited-edition run of the posters on archival paper numbered and signed by Brian Lanker. Additionally, donors of $1,000 or more
will be permanently recognized on a plaque to be placed on the memorial statue's bench. We welcome gifts of any size and any ideas you can offer to bring this project to fruition. We would especially appreciate your
letting others know of this project.

Thank you so much for your consideration. We hope that you will join Paul Newman, Milos Forman, Mason Williams, Tom Robbins, Larry McMurtry and other authors, celebrities and admirers in supporting this
cause. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or need additional information.

Sincerely yours,

Cathy Briner

CAPN SKIP REPORTS ON WMDS

Hey, Al, here's news, all the news that's fits.

CNN/Reuters: News reports have filtered out early this morning that US planes from the carrier, Abraham Lincoln, have swooped down on an Iraqi Primary School in Umm Qsar and scooped up 6th Grade teacher
Mohammed Al-Hazar. When captured, Al-Hazar was in possession of a  ruler, a protractor, a set square and a calculator. Flight leader, Bunny Pants Bush, gleeflully bragged that this was the  clearest evidence yet that Iraq indeed possessed weapons of math instruction.

THE LIE THAT STARTED THE VIETNAM WAR

Subject: Cover-up
Date: Sat, 17 May 2003 16:42:39 -0400
From: "DICK DETTREY" <dey21@quixnet.net>

Dear Al,

Doesn't it seem strange to you that there was no further talk about Bush stealing the election because of a rigged vote in FL, where his brother is the governor? It seems rather strange to me that the election scandal was forgotten when those planes hit the Twin Towers in NYC. How better a way to hide the truth than have
outsiders create more of a horrendous act of invading Amerikkka, which is, supposedly, the land of the caring and forgiving. That is pure bovine scatology and the vast majority of Americans fell for it, just like they fell for the details of the phantom battle in the Gulf of Tonkin in 1964, which was, also, used by the President to fully invade Vietnam. I'll include a story about that infamous battle that NEVER took place for your perusal. I hope that you enjoy it more so than I enjoyed my trip and stay in Vietnam in the spring of 1965 as a 'trained killer? in the U.S. Army! That wouldn't take much, believe me.

Dick Dettrey

P.S.-The pseudonym of "Dick Smith? is one that I used for my "cover-up." At least, I admit it though!

THE CAMOUFLAGE OF THE TONKIN GULF
By Dick Smith

A little background to the phantom battle that happened, supposedly, on 4 Aug 64, and the origins of the Vietnam war are needed. First of all, when President Wilson ignored and rebuffed Ho Chi Minh's plea for the recognition of his tiny country at the Versailles Peace Conference in 1919, thus turning to the communists for help, that spelled the beginning of a slow death for this country. It was further expanded upon when the ailing FDR failed in his intention to place Indochina (thus Vietnam) under a UN trusteeship, It wasn't aided when Truman permitted France to return to Indochina and extended U.S. diplomatic recognition and military aid to the states of Indochina "associated" with France. At any rate, the imperialistic adventure was completely avoidable and had no plan for success, at all. And those that fail to plan, plan to fail. Unfortunately, over 58,000 men and boys died because of the U.S.'s failure to plan.

On to the phantom battle in the Tonkin Gulf of 4 Aug 64 and its mysteries for the actual battle on 2 Aug 64, agreed to by everybody, including Hanoi, actually occurred! After the 2 Aug incident, the destroyer USS Maddox retreated down the gulf, rendezvoused with the USS Turner Joy, and deliberately returned to the scene to assert a U.S. presence. Then, the "fun" or act of provoking began when the "mighty" U.S. bombed North Vietnam in retaliation for an act (the second incident) that never occurred! That was provocation in spite of what this so-called Christian country called it---a retaliation!

Whether or not the USS Maddox was in international waters remains a mystery for the U.S. claimed that the USS Maddox was within ten or less miles of offshore islands five times between 31 Jul 64 and the first Tonkin Gulf incident on 2 Aug 64. The United States recognized a three-mile territorial limit at that time. However,
North Vietnam claimed a twelve-mile boundary, but that claim was not made public until Sep 64.

Operation 34-A (a hidden plan for pressure on North Vietnam with which the USS Maddox was connected), coordinated with the 34-A Maritime operations. It was top secret and had classified information that was known by select officials, however.

There is yet another mystery of the Tonkin Gulf and that is the sequence of events on 2 Aug 64. Admiral Moorer testified that the USS Maddox opened fire only after she came under torpedo attack. However, the record shows that the USS Maddox commenced fire at 9,000 yards after firing initial warning shots. The Navy's official history shows that the USS Maddox made a positive identification of the PT boats at 9,800 yards, and assumed that they launched the first torpedo somewhere between 9,000 and 5,000 yards.

The largest part of the puzzle revolves around whether there was a second incident at all. The second incident gave the cause that this country so desperately needed which, of course, led to the only defeat in its relatively short history. "Professed patriotism may be made the cover for a multitude of sins." (2).

The 2 Aug 64 incident occurred in daylight while the phantom battle of 4 Aug happened at night, thus making any physical battle difficult to obtain. We have to rely on the words of Commander James B. Stockdale, a naval aviator, who witnessed an hour and a half of the "battle" from a point overhead and saw NOTHING!

One should ask: "What was the USS Maddox doing in the Tonkin Gulf?" The communications van aboard her was manned by ten navy and five marine specialists. It, also, seems clear that foreknowledge of a supposed Vietnamese intention to attack the U.S. vessels was, in fact, a self-fulfilling prophecy. In other words, it gave the "democratic" United States (Goliath) the reason it needed to provoke the war against North Vietnam (David).

Then, there is the final mystery of the Tonkin Gulf. This involves a rumor back channel from the chief of naval operations direct to Captain Herrick, the commander of the USS Maddox, before the start of the ill-fated Desoto mission in which he supposedly ordered Herrick to make sure he got in harm's way by going in prepared to support the naval operations in that area.

Whether there was a conspiracy or not, deception occurred there and it was carried out by the military and sanctioned by an uninformed and patriotic Congress with the passage of the Tonkin Gulf Resolution of 7 Aug 64 after 10 hours of "debate." 58,000+ American men and close to 4 million Vietnamese, ultimately, gave their priceless lives, stemming from this phantom battle. They lost their lives, while this "trained killer," who was a REMF or a Rear Echelon Mother-Fucker or Main-Forces," lost his patriotism because of "whales!" "Professed patriotism may be made the cover for a multitude of sins." (3).

The vestige of the former "trained killer,"

"The President's War," by Anthony Austin; "Tonkin Gulf and the Escalation of the Vietnam War," by Edward Mo'se; "In Love and War," by Jim and Sybil Stockdale; and "The United States Navy and the Vietnam Conflict: From Military Assistance to Combat, 1959-1965, Vol. 11," by Edward J. out there" (1) exemplifies the total ignorance? and incompetence of our president and his cohorts in crime, conspiracy, and extended imperialism.

THE DEVIL AND GEORGE BUSH

Subject: Deep thoughts
Date: Thu, 17 Apr 2003 22:12:45 퍍
From: edadler@att.net
To: info@blacklistedjournalist.com

George Bush jumps from an airplane and dies. He goes to hell where the devil is waiting for him.

"I don't know what to do here, " says the devil. "You are on my list but I have no room for you. You
definitely have to stay here, so I'll tell you what I'm going to do. I've got three folks here who weren't quite as bad as you. I'll let one of them go, but you have to take their place. I'll even let YOU decide who leaves."

George thought that sounded pretty good, so he agreed.

The devil opened the first room: in it was Richard Nixon and a large pool of water. He kept diving in and
surfacing empty-handed over and over and over. Such was his fate in hell.

"No!" George said. "I don't think so. I'm not a good swimmer and don't think I could do that all day long."

The devil led him to the next room: in it was Tony Blair with a sledgehammer and a room full of rocks. All he did was swing that hammer, time after time after time.

"No, I've got this problem with my shoulder. I would be in constant agony if all I could do was break rocks all day!" lamented George.

The devil opened a third door. In it, George saw Bill Clinton, lying on the floor with his arms staked over his head, and his legs staked in spread eagle pose. Bent over him was Monica Lewinsky, doing what she does best.

George Bush looked at this in disbelief for a while and finally said, "Yeah, I can handle this."

The devil smiled and said, "OK, Monica, you're free to go!"  ##
